Questions the clinic answers
How long does a patient need to wear teeth braces?
The duration of braces treatment varies for each individual, typically ranging from 12 to 24 months. In some complex cases or for older patients, it may extend up to 3 years. Factors that influence the treatment time include the severity of the alignment issues, the health of your gums and teeth, and how consistently you follow your orthodontist’s instructions. Wearing your braces as directed and attending regular adjustment appointments can help achieve faster and more effective results.
What’s the Ideal Age to Get Braces?
There’s no one “perfect” age for getting braces—people of all ages can benefit from orthodontic treatment. While many associate braces with children and teenagers, adults are also excellent candidates for achieving straighter, healthier smiles. That said, the teenage years and early 20s are often considered the ideal time for braces. This is because the jaw and facial bones are still growing, which allows teeth to move more efficiently into their ideal positions. However, it’s never too late to improve your smile. Whether you’re a teen or an adult, our orthodontist will assess your needs and help you choose the best treatment plan tailored to your age and oral health condition.
Are dental braces painful?
Braces aren’t typically painful when placed correctly by an experienced orthodontist. However, it’s common to feel mild to moderate discomfort for a few days after they are fitted or adjusted. This is a normal part of the process as your teeth begin to shift. The discomfort usually fades as your mouth adjusts.
Can braces change your face shape?
Yes, braces can subtly change the shape of your face—especially when correcting major bite issues or jaw misalignment. By gradually moving your teeth and realigning your jaw, braces can enhance facial balance and symmetry. For example, treating overbites or underbites may adjust the position of your chin or jawline, making your profile appear more harmonious. In children and teens, these changes can be more noticeable since their bones are still developing. For adults, the changes are often more refined but can still improve overall facial aesthetics, such as fuller lips or a more defined jaw structure. While the primary goal of braces is to straighten teeth, the added benefit of enhanced facial structure is one many patients appreciate.
How to brush teeth with braces?
Brushing with braces requires extra care to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste, and hold the brush at a 45-degree angle to clean around the brackets—both above and below. Use small circular motions, making sure to clean all surfaces: the front, back, and chewing edges of your teeth. Don’t forget to gently brush around the brackets and wires to remove any trapped food or plaque. For best results, brush after every meal, and consider using an interdental brush or orthodontic floss threader to clean between the teeth and under the wires.
How much do braces cost?
The cost of braces in Dubai depends on several factors, including the type of braces (metal, ceramic, lingual, or clear aligners), the complexity of your dental case, and the duration of the treatment. The final price may vary based on the material used and the level of orthodontic correction needed.
What should I know before getting braces?
Braces can serve both cosmetic and functional purposes — while some people opt for braces to enhance their smile and boost confidence, others require them to correct severe bite issues like underbite or overbite, which may even involve jaw surgery. According to the American Association of Orthodontists, children should have an orthodontic evaluation by age 7, though adults can consult an orthodontist at any age. Fortunately, getting braces doesn’t usually involve shots, and thanks to modern techniques, they are not as painful as many expect. Mild soreness or irritation may occur after placement, often managed with pain relief or orthodontic wax. A referral from your dentist isn’t required, though it’s wise to check with your insurance provider. The number of appointments varies, but typically includes regular visits every 4–8 weeks after initial placement. While most foods are allowed, i…
How do I know which type of braces is best for me?
The best type of braces for you depends on several factors such as the complexity of your dental condition, your lifestyle, aesthetic preferences, and budget. Traditional metal braces are ideal for severe misalignment, while ceramic braces are more discreet. Lingual braces are hidden behind the teeth, and clear aligners like Invisalign are removable and nearly invisible. Your orthodontist will evaluate your bite, alignment, and overall oral health during a consultation and recommend the most suitable option based on your needs.
